Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital is seeking a New Grad RN Resident for the Stepdown Unit. You will join a Magnet Hospital and a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality care on nights (7:00pm–7:30am).

In this one-year Nurse Residency program, you will engage in tailored tracks, hands-on training, and mentorship to advance your nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or Red Cross
  • ACLS certification if in Critical Care per hire requirements
  • New grad or limited RN experience in inpatient acute care

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care with a dedicated coach
  • Set and revise patient care priorities based on acuity, preferences, and resources
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patient health and take corrective action
  • Seek supervision as needed and document in medical records

Avon Hospital’s Stepdown Unit specializes in the care of patients with major medical and surgical diagnoses. Caregivers in this unit provide the highest quality, and safest, care possible through teamwork and collaboration. By taking this opportunity, you will join a multi‑disciplinary team that has open communication, intentional collaboration, and a friendly work environment.As an RN Resident on this unit, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, from initial introduction to final send-off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed.

A caregiver in this position works nights 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • *If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of hire
  • New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one-year current acute direct patient care RN experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
