New Business Underwriter - Commercial Lines (Specialist Sector)
Location: Remote - Flexible to either the Birmingham, Leeds or Manchester office
Salary: Up to £50,000 + Sales Bonus

You’ll be joining a well-established, close-knit team of eight underwriters spread across the UK. Despite being based remotely, the team is tightly connected and supported by an experienced leader who values autonomy, expertise, and a shared sense of purpose. The focus here is 100% new business, with underwriters each working towards an individual annual new business income target.
What sets this role apart is the balance it offers: you're aligned to a regional office (Birmingham, Leeds, or Manchester), but the set-up is flexible and working remotely most of the time is absolutely fine. The environment suits someone proactive, self-motivated, and confident handling commercial combined or specialist-sector cases independently.
Referrals are driven by an external sales team, which means you’ll be working reactively to enquiries, quoting, converting, and underwriting risks manually (no e-trade or automation). Typical premiums sit in the £10k–£15k range however will deal with higher value risks.
Within the team, there’s a healthy mix of experience including several senior underwriters, creating a supportive and collaborative culture. The business understands the value of technical skill and broker relationships, and while occasional broker meetings are encouraged, this is more of a desk-based technical underwriting role. Whether you bring direct experience in a specific sector, or you're a strong commercial underwriter with solid combined/P&C exposure, this could be a rewarding opportunity to sharpen your expertise in a stable, respected environment with a positive team dynamic.
