Job summary

Hillingdon Hospital seeks a consultant in neurological rehabilitation to join the spinal cord injury team. The post involves diagnosing and managing spinal cord injury patients and planning their rehabilitation across London networks.

Applicants should have MRCP or equivalent and a CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine, with GMC registration. Trainees close to CCT are welcome to apply, with opportunities for collaboration with Imperial and NHSE.

Qualifications

• MRCP or equivalent credential required.
• CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine required or within six months of expected CCT.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and medically manage spinal cord injury patients, including spasticity and pain.
• Evaluate rehabilitation potential and prognosis, define rehabilitation needs and direct patients to services.
• Coordinate care with medical, nursing and therapy teams.
• Provide consultant input to the London Spinal Cord Injury Network and the North West London Major Trauma Network.
• Support patients' families with information and guidance, including when in distress.
• Work with regional spinal cord injury centres on referrals and collaborative clinical discussion.
• Improve spinal cord injury care across North West London, including integrated working with community services and outreach.
• Contribute to the network education and training programme, including its evaluation and delivery.
• Involve service users and carers in feedback, audit and coproduction.
• Monitor standards and outcomes across the network.
• Develop Hillingdon Specialist Rehabilitation Service as a specialist spinal rehabilitation provider with NHSE and the NWL ICB.
• Provide strategic clinical leadership on spinal care pathways and clinical standards across London.
