Job summary

The NHS consultant paediatrician post sits within NELFT's BHR Neurodevelopmental service, a newly established clinical unit focused on evaluating and planning evidence-based care for children with neurodevelopmental needs. The role emphasises supervision, service development and research across a large community paediatric team.

Applicants should have GMC registration with specialist accreditation in paediatrics and neurodisability training; experience in assessing complex cases and leading

Qualifications

• MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
• CCT/CCST or equivalent accreditation in Community Paediatrics, or equivalent training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess, manage and plan evidence-based care for children, including specialist and multidisciplinary assessment.
• Manage the specialist care pathway, including treatment and outcome measurement.
• Provide a high quality, accessible, timely specialist neurodevelopmental service for children, young people and families.
• Manage the waiting list at a clinically safe level and prioritise resources to clinical need.
• Supervise junior colleagues and MDT staff, including teaching and training.
• Deputise for the team manager and organise workload for self and others.
• Support development of the Autism/ADHD service and the integrated neurodevelopmental service across BHR.
• Produce reports for statutory work, including EHC plans.
• Manage team-level risk, including incident reporting and adding residual risks to the risk register.
• Keep accurate records for audit and follow Trust protocols.
• Initiate referrals to specialist services and agencies, and liaise with health and social care partners.
• Contribute to service evaluation, development and applied research
