Portsmouth Water is excited to announce an opening for a Network Technician to join our expanding Network department. This role involves conducting various water network field activities, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring safe, first-time resolutions. Responsibilities include both planned and reactive work, addressing performance issues, optimizing water supply systems, and maintaining safety and regulatory compliance. The position also entails collaboration with teams, asset management, water quality monitoring, and mentoring other operatives.
Please note that comprehensive training will be provided.
What will you be doing?
- Performing field-based water network activities within Portsmouth Water's supply area (South East Hampshire & West Sussex).
- Troubleshooting and resolving network issues collaboratively with teams and stakeholders.
- Handling planned and reactive tasks, investigating water network performance (pressure, leakage, metering, supply disruptions).
- Conducting distribution main isolation, asset verification, and water quality checks (flushing, sampling).
- Monitoring flows, pressures, and water quality parameters (chlorine, turbidity) to ensure safety.
- Operating water assets (valves, hydrants) and conducting site assessments using GIS and schematics.
- Performing site inspections and providing detailed reports.
- Supporting office-based teams, preparing equipment, and assisting fellow operatives.
- Ensuring strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
- Participating in out-of-hours standby duties, including weekends, in addition to core hours (Monday to Thursday 8 am - 4:15 pm and Friday 8 am - 3:30 pm).
What do you need?
- Desirable: Experience in the clean water industry, such as pressure/flow management, customer inquiries related to water supply, testing, main isolation, flushing, and sampling.
- Proficiency in IT tools including Office365, GIS mapping, PDA/Tablet use, and online reporting software.
- A full UK driving license is essential.
- Strong initiative in solving field issues.
- Motivated by safe, first-time results and completing tasks from start to finish.
- Proven ability to own or lead tasks, with a drive to see jobs through to resolution.
- High regard for safety and compliance.
- Leadership qualities, sharing knowledge, skills, and work ethic.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing operational needs.
- Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work in confined spaces; a safety-critical medical assessment will be required upon job offer.
