The Network Engineer role will work with the network and server infrastructure team to ensure the normal day-to-day operation of our clients' network environment. This includes direct support of the WAN and LAN supporting over 1000 restaurants across the UK.
Vendor management is a key part of this role, as our client has partnered with various organizations to assist with daily operations. You will serve as a key point of contact between the business and support partners, providing troubleshooting and guidance related to network issues as they arise.
This role will provide technical oversight and management of strategic partners.
The position involves collaborating with the global head office team and third-party vendors to plan, design, and develop LAN and WAN networks across the organization. While primarily focused on managing key strategic partners, the role also involves technical project support and hands-on tasks as needed. The role reports to the Infrastructure and Security Manager.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Collaborate with the Infrastructure and Security Manager and wider IT department (including Restaurant Technology, Digital Technology, Data, and Support teams) to assess network capacity needs.
- Review and contribute to strategic direction and supplier plans related to infrastructure, acting as a Subject Matter Expert on Network, Infrastructure, and Disaster Recovery.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Acquisition & Deployment: Ensure designs from third-party vendors and internal stakeholders meet requirements for the corporate network environment.
- Stay informed about industry developments in network products, services, protocols, and standards.
- Oversee upgrades and monitor equipment, hardware, and software nearing End of Life.
- Operational Management: Manage and ensure the reliable operation of network configurations with suppliers.
- Install and configure network switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless controllers.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with policies.
- Test network and system performance and security, providing reports and statistics.
- Mentor junior team members and support infrastructure projects and audit activities.
- Provide out-of-hours support and escalation as per team rota.
Essential experience required:
- Vendor management and service ownership experience.
- Proven experience with Cisco technologies, including OSPF and BGP routing.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco ISE and Cisco Prime.
- Design and implementation experience with LAN, WAN, and SD-WAN.
- Experience with Forcepoint products and managing Palo Alto firewalls.
- Knowledge of Solarwinds and network capacity planning.
- Understanding of network security principles, hardware troubleshooting, and testing tools.
- Familiarity with telephony systems and network connectivity options (FTTC, FTTP, ADSL, MPLS, SD-WAN).
- Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
- Awareness of data privacy laws and practices.
- Experience working in a global organization and implementing standards and policies.
- Vendor certifications (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco) are a bonus.
- Technical project experience is welcomed.
