Job description

Take ownership of cyber security in a global, business-critical trading environment.

I'm partnering with a fortune 500 commodities trading organisation to recruit a Network & Cyber Security Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a lean, highly technical IT team where you'll have genuine ownership of the company's cyber security posture rather than operating as part of a traditional SOC.

If you're someone who enjoys solving complex security challenges, improving infrastructure, and taking a proactive approach to cyber defense, this role offers the chance to make a real impact.

The Role

This is a hands-on engineering position combining cyber security, enterprise networking and infrastructure security.

You'll be responsible for protecting a business-critical trading environment by designing, implementing and continually improving security controls across the network and infrastructure.

Working closely with the IT Team Leader, you'll own the day-to-day security of the environment while helping shape its long-term security strategy.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Take ownership of the organisation's network security estate.
  • Manage and optimize enterprise firewalls and security controls.
  • Monitor, investigate and respond to security incidents.
  • Lead vulnerability management, remediation and Zero Day response.
  • Strengthen security monitoring and incident response capabilities.
  • Improve network architecture and security resilience.
  • Perform risk assessments and prioritize remediation activities.
  • Work across networking, infrastructure and cyber security to continuously improve the organisation's security posture.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities and industry best practice.
What We're Looking For:

We're looking for an experienced infrastructure security professional with strong networking fundamentals and a proactive approach to cyber security.

You'll likely have experience with:

  • Enterprise firewall technologies such as Check Point, Palo Alto or Fortinet.
  • Routing, switching and enterprise networking.
  • Secure network design and troubleshooting.
  • Vulnerability management, patching and CVE remediation.
  • SIEM platforms, security monitoring and incident response.
  • Threat investigations and security analysis.

We care far more about your understanding of the underlying technologies than experience with any particular vendor. If you have strong technical fundamentals, you'll be supported in learning new tools and platforms.

About You:

You'll be someone who:

  • Takes ownership and accountability.
  • Thinks proactively rather than reactively.
  • Has excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Understands business risk, not just technical risk.
  • Enjoys continuously improving security rather than simply maintaining it.
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider IT team.

This role would particularly suit candidates coming from:

  • Banking
  • Insurance
  • Commodities Trading
  • Energy
  • Other highly regulated environments
What Success Looks Like:

During your first 6-12 months you'll be trusted to:

  • Take ownership of the firewall estate.
  • Improve the organisation's network security.
  • Stay ahead of vulnerabilities and emerging threats.
  • Enhance monitoring and incident response capabilities.
  • Deliver measurable improvements to the company's overall cyber security posture.
Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a technically driven team where you'll have genuine influence over security decisions and the freedom to make meaningful improvements.

Rather than being one engineer in a large security function, you'll play a key role in protecting a global trading environment where cyber security is business critical.

If you're looking for a role that combines hands-on engineering, strategic thinking and real ownership, we'd love to hear from you.
