A Network Product Owner / Tech Lead for low latency environments within financial markets data centres is responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing ultra-fast network infrastructure critical to financial trading operations. This role merges technical leadership with product ownership, ensuring that network solutions meet both technical performance metrics and evolving business needs.

A Network Product Owner / Tech Lead for low latency environments within financial markets data centres is responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing ultra-fast network infrastructure critical to financial trading operations. This role merges technical leadership with product ownership, ensuring that network solutions meet both technical performance metrics and evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Architecture & Design: Lead the design and continual optimization of ultra-low latency network infrastructure (e.g. Layer 1 switching, FPGA-based solutions, multicast protocols).
  • Product Ownership: Act as the voice of the business for the network infrastructure—managing the roadmap, prioritizing features and performance upgrades, and aligning with trading desk requirements.
  • Latency Reduction: Continuously monitor and reduce network latency to microsecond or even nanosecond levels—crucial in high-frequency trading environments.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with hardware vendors (Cisco, Arista, Mellanox, etc.), exchanges, internal trading teams, and software developers.
  • Tech Leadership: Mentor engineers, lead implementation of new technologies, and set standards for performance, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Risk & Compliance: Ensure systems meet regulatory standards (e.g. MiFID II timestamping), and support disaster recovery and failover strategies.

Skills & Tools:

  • Technical: Deep expertise in networking (TCP/IP, BGP, multicast, PTP), ultra-low latency hardware (e.g. FPGA, Arista 7130), and network analytics.
  • Programming/Scripting: Familiarity with Python, Bash, or Go for automation and performance tuning.
  • Tooling: Corvil, SolarWinds, Wireshark, Chronos, or other network performance monitoring tools.
  • Product Management: Agile methodologies, Jira, Confluence; strong ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Typical Background:

  • Experience in electronic trading, market data infrastructure, or network engineering in capital markets.
  • Proven track record of driving latency-sensitive projects from concept to delivery.
  • Likely to hold certifications like CCIE, JNCIP, or specialised qualifications in low-latency systems.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Demonstrable ability in network architecture, design, and implementation.
  • 5+ years in a technical lead role managing technical teams.
  • Demonstrable experience with large-scale service provider and financial services grade network environments, including enterprise, data center and cloud integration.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep expertise in multicast, large scale Core routing and switching (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
  • Financial Services, Service Provider, Low Latency and Market Venue / Exchange knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of cloud and hybrid networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Solid understanding of network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).

Soft Skills:

  • Good oral and written communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical collaborators.
  • Strategic problem solver with the ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE)
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • AWS, Azure or GCP Certified
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
