Job Purpose

The NetworkLeakage Technician (DAYS) reports to the Leakage Team Leader within the water network. This role supports the delivery of strategic targets by executing leakage detection activities aligned with the Distribution Operations Maintenance Strategy (DOMS), leakage, customer, and efficiency targets within the regulatory framework. The technician plays a key role in helping United Utilities meet its Leakage ODI Targets.

Based in the regional leakage team in the North of the UU area, reporting to a regional team leader.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive and reactive leakage detection using techniques like correlating, sounding, pressure zero tests, step testing, and data loggers.
  • Use flow and pressure data to identify leakage areas and prioritize investigations.
  • Raise work orders for leak repairs via Toughbook, manage network interruptions, and assist during operational incidents both during the day and out of hours.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, including confined space entry and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support efficient leak detection and resolution, enhancing network performance and customer satisfaction.
Skills & Experience
  • Ability to interpret data and identify leakage areas.
  • Familiarity with leakage detection techniques and tools.
  • Effective problem-solving skills for leakage issues.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Understanding of flow and pressure data, leakage detection methods, and network systems.
Qualifications

Essential: Educated to a good standard, preferably GCSE grade C or above, City and Guilds, or demonstrated technical skills. A dedicated training program will be provided to support effective performance in the role.
