Overview

Network Field Engineer| 12 months (Outside IR35)| Hybrid (Edinburgh)

Harvey Nash is recruiting for a Network Field Engineer on a 12 month Contract.

You will have strong hands-on experience in Cisco switching and routing (CCNA minimum), ideally with exposure to Palo Alto, F5, VPN, Collaboration, Windows, and Linux. You'll play a key role in delivering major network transformation projects across Scotland, including SD-WAN deployment and LAN/Wi-Fi upgrades.

This role requires regular travel across Scotland, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support site deployments. You'll be proactive, technically skilled, and able to work independently and collaboratively to deliver results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery
  • Lead deployment of SD-WAN to 50+ sites and LAN/Wi-Fi upgrades.
  • Contribute to network design, strategy, and implementation.
  • Provide expert advice on infrastructure and security design.
  • Represent the Networks team in internal/external meetings.
  • Support future projects (e.g. F5, data centre migration, VPN changes).
Governance & Best Practice
  • Governance Ensure compliance with PSN and internal policies.
  • Promote best practices in network management and design.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Liaise with operational teams to improve service delivery.
  • Attend CAB and project meetings to support change initiatives.
Service Development
  • Identify opportunities for improvement based on the network roadmap.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong Cisco experience (2960X/XR, 4500, 9000, Nexus) with certification.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining high-availability networks.
  • Familiarity with: Cisco UC, WLC, F5 VPN/Silverline/XC, IPsec, Palo Alto.
  • Experience with network monitoring and load balancing.
  • Ability to work effectively with both IT and operational teams.
