Qualifications

  • Understanding of firewalls (Checkpoint, Cisco) and Data Centre technologies.
  • IP Networking experience required.
  • Cisco/Checkpoint accreditations (e.g., CCNA / CCSA) are a must.

Role overview

Being part of the Data Centre Team in Networks the role holder plays a big part in this. BT’s core business traverses our Network and Firewall devices – we need to make sure our Network is up, accessible and functioning correctly 24/7 to meet the expectation of our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Ticket Planning: Ability to plan interconnects on relevant ticketing systems i.e. ALGOSEC.
  • Ticket Implementation: Ability to implement interconnects across the BT firewall estate, Cisco & Checkpoint vendors.
  • Firewall security experience: Ability to discuss and review technical customer issues/deliveries with relevant peer groups.
  • Accountable for the timely solving and closure of connectivity issues using ServiceNow.
  • Accountable for delivering Fireflow ticket allocation and implementation in a timely manner.
  • Accountable for delivering NAIF/Moscow implementation in a timely manner.
  • May provide design support and information downstream on new features and/or Firewall component design.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex incidents where solutions may not be clear or procedures may not exist, identified through proactive monitoring.
  • Drive improvements in working processes.
  • Participate in out-of-hours change work and be part of a callout rota to provide 24x7 support for platforms.
Skills and Experience

Must Have:

  • Understanding of Network Security firewall technologies and their uses (Checkpoint and Cisco)
  • Understanding of Data Centre Network Technologies
  • IP Networking Skills
  • Cisco/Checkpoint networking/security accreditations (e.g., CCNA / CCSA)
  • Proven strong customer-facing skills
  • Efficient problem solver in enterprise environments
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Good interpersonal skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience of Major IT Uplift programmes, including migration to cloud-based services
  • Experience with Network Devices – Routers, Switches, STM’s, ACE etc.
