CBSbutler is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support a highly secure defence network environment. You will ensure network availability, implement architectural changes and support mission-critical services within a specialist team.

The role requires strong networking and firewall expertise, with responsibility for design, security and documentation in a high-assurance setting. You will collaborate with defence stakeholders and international partners.

Qualifications

  • Extensive professional network engineering experience.
  • CCNP or equivalent networking certification.
  • Palo Alto firewalls experience and strong firewalling skills.
  • Experience with multi-vendor networking environments across complex data centres.
  • Experience operating in secure defence or government environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a complex secure network environment, including gateways and cross-connects to international networks.
  • Monitor network performance, identify outages and ensure SLAs are met.
  • Design and implement network changes aligned with project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to delivery teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with defence stakeholders and international partners on network initiatives.
  • Manage perimeter security and internet-facing security policies.
  • Support software-defined networking and inter-enclave firewalling.
  • Contribute to service provider and data centre network solutions.
  • Develop technical documentation using Confluence.

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join a specialist team supporting the operation, maintenance and continued development of a highly secure defence network environment.

This is a technically challenging role requiring strong networking and firewall expertise, with responsibility for maintaining network availability, delivering architectural changes and supporting secure, mission-critical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a complex secure network environment, including gateways and cross-connects to international networks.
  • Monitor network performance, identify outages proactively and ensure SLAs are maintained.
  • Design and implement network and architectural changes in line with project and service requirements.
  • Provide technical consultation to delivery teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Work with defence stakeholders and international partners to design, coordinate and deliver network initiatives.
  • Manage network perimeter security, internet-facing security policies and deployed network assets.
  • Support software-defined networking and inter-enclave firewalling.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of service provider and data centre network solutions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation using tools such as Confluence.
  • Support the configuration and management of secure networking and cryptographic technologies.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Extensive professional Network Engineering experience.
  • CCNP or equivalent networking experience.
  • Palo Alto Experience
  • Strong firewalling experience, ideally PCNSE or equivalent.
  • Strong experience across multi-vendor networking technologies.
  • Proven experience in network design and project delivery.
  • Experience with service provider and data centre networking.
  • Experience working with high-grade encryption / cryptographic technologies.
  • Experience operating within secure defence or government environments.
  • Ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
