Job description

As our Network Engineer, you will be proactively managing our network estate including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and WAN connectivity to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability. In close collaboration with the Network Team Leader, you’ll implement robust solutions, respond to incidents, and carry out preventative maintenance to minimise the risk of critical outages that could disrupt business operations. You’ll also support day-to-day network functions, take part in pre-agreed out-of-hours change implementations, and occasionally travel to UK and European sites. What you can expect as an Network Engineer

Key responsibilities include
  • Support and maintain the Cabot Group’s Network Services, working closely with internal teams and external partners.

  • Ensure network components meet build standards and governance requirements.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, capacity issues, and service improvement opportunities.

  • Maintain backup, recovery, and failover capabilities across network and telephony systems.

  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring RPO/RTO targets are met.

  • Manage incidents, problems, and changes within agreed SLAs, providing clear communication throughout.

  • Contribute to technical change management and project delivery, ensuring compliance with standards and security controls.

  • Participate in service reviews and provide metrics to track performance and improvements.

  • Offer L3 technical support during major incidents and DR scenarios, including post-event analysis and remediation.

  • Participate in out-of-hours support and change implementations as required.

We are looking for someone with
  • 1 – 3 years’ experience working within a technical support role / project delivery role

  • Recognised IT qualifications e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, WCNA, CIISP, PCNSA, PCNSE

  • Experience of Cisco Catalyst enterprise switching & routing infrastructure

  • Experience of Palo Alto Next Generation Firewalls (Experience with Panorama a plus)

  • Competent in the configuration and use of monitoring solutions – e.g. Solarwinds.

  • Experience of Meraki WLAN solutions, for seamless cross site services and guest/corporate user segregation.

  • Experience of VPN & 2 factor authentication mechanisms to deliver controlled 3rd party/remote access.

  • Experience of managing both physical and virtual firewall infrastructure & rule base controls in the Palo Alto ecosystem.

  • Working knowledge of NSX-T (desirable)

  • Working knowledge of PSTN SIP Services and SBCs (desirable)

  • An understanding of DR/BCP business processes.
