About the opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile network engineer to join our Amentum International team. The role holder will possess expertise in hybrid environments (on-prem, Azure, SASE). The role holder will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of resilient network infrastructure that ensures optimal reliability, scalability, and performance.

Reporting to the Tech Services Manager, you will be working as a part of a small but highly proactive and passionate team providing remote and on-site network infrastructure support for our enterprise end users (internal users), across the UK, EMEA, APAC (approx. 7,500 users). You will also collaborate with colleagues at our USA central (HQ) technology team.

The base office for this position is in Birchwood Park, Warrington. You will be required to visit the office weekly.

Responsibilities

  • Work across BAU operations and projects & programmes
  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
  • Configure and install software and network devices
  • Monitor network performance and integrity
  • Resolve support issues that have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
  • Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
  • Communicate with users when needed
  • Maintain complete technical documentation
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
  • Train and mentor other team members, to ensure cross-training / skilling
Requirements
  • F5 and Cisco Meraki skills and experience
  • Solid background in network administration and architecture
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP)
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security
  • Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g. Python, Perl) is an advantage
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds)
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco NX-OS, IOS-XE)
  • Proven experience with Palo Alto firewalls (Panorama, PAN-OS, LSVPN)
  • Highly experienced troubleshooting skills
  • Several years of experience working within a large enterprise estate (5,000+ users)
  • Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator
  • Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP) or proven knowledge on this level
