Job summary

SSEN Transmission, part of SSE, offers an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join the Network Development Team. The role coordinates new connection activities, whole-system planning and network resilience, with 50% office-based work from Scottish locations.

You will partner with System Planning and Asset Management to align disciplines, develop technical designs and cost proposals, and contribute to feasibility studies within CDM and regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate new connection activities and whole-system planning across the SHET area.
• Develop schemes interfacing with other Transmission Operators.
• Collaborate with System Planning and Asset Management to ensure cross-disciplinary alignment.
• Develop technical designs, programmes and cost proposals with CDM considerations.
• Support feasibility studies and conceptual design activities with commercial considerations.

Base Location:For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Perth, Aberdeen, or Inverness.

Salary: £36,200 - £54,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As part of our ongoing growth in SSEN Transmission, we have an excellent opportunity for a Assistant Project Manager to join the Network Development Team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for coordinating new connection activities, whole system planning and network resilience.

You will

• Support the management, coordination and development of schemes triggered by load or non-load means across the SHET area, as well as schemes that interface with other Transmission Operators.
• Work closely with System Planning and Asset Management colleagues, developing effective relationships to ensure early alignment across disciplines and the consideration of whole system and whole lifecycle approaches in Area System Plans.
• Assist in developing competent technical designs, programmes (with Outage implications) and cost proposals for new transmission projects, in compliance with Construction, Design and Management Regulations (CDM).
• Contribute to the strategic optioneering of the network by supporting the development of options, their conceptual design, cost, and programme.
• Provide support to Transmission System Planning Engineers in the preparation of feasibility studies and conceptual design activities, ensuring that technical and commercial considerations are clearly captured.

You have

• An engineering or technical qualification (or equivalent experience), along with an interest in technical and engineering problem solving with transferable skills from previous roles or industries. Experience of supporting the development of infrastructure projects through early stage optioneering, routing, and feasibility assessments would be advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple internal teams and external stakeholders in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• An understanding of commercial principles, project reporting and financial control within a large capital project environment.
• An interest or understanding of the electrical transmission network, with a willingness to build knowledge of regulatory frameworks and licence obligations of transmission owners.
• Awareness of safety and operational practices, including Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations and the importance of safety and environmental leadership in project development
