National Grid is hiring a Network Design Training and Authorisation Manager for our Customer and Network Development Team based in Warwick.

About the role

We're looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Training Manager who will plan, manage and organise the training and authorisation requirements of the present and future workforce across Network Design to ensure Electricity Transmission (ET) successfully and efficiently deliver against our regulatory outputs.

What you'll do
  • Plan and organise training for high apprentices (HA) and power system engineers (PSEs) at different levels across Network Design.
  • Complete periodic planning and review of current workforce capabilities and identify training gaps/needs.
  • Develop an annual programme of training, share with relevant internal stakeholders, and implement across relevant teams.
  • Where a training gap is identified that is not currently met by existing Academy offerings/existing external training providers, conduct relevant research and develop a business case to gain senior leadership approval to progress to implementation.
  • Accountable for tracking of completion of training to ensure relevant teams have appropriate capabilities to carry out their role.
  • Manage authorisation process for PSEs across Network Design and Electricity Transmission when required, according to relevant Business Procedures.
  • Lead the development of authorisation assessment packs, engaging with relevant senior leaders to ensure appropriate level and technical relevance.
  • Gather feedback from trainees, mentors, and assessors on the overall authorisation process to make sure it is continuously improved.
  • Conduct horizon scanning across the power system industry and other utilities to understand new and emerging training capabilities and implement these across Network Design as required, to ensure National Grid remains at the forefront of training best practice.
  • Be the lead contact and interface for all training related matters, externally and across any other part of National Grid.
What you'll need
  • Excellent range of management and business planning experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in power system engineering or a related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the GB power system industry.
  • Strong influencing skills including experience of using these skills with senior management.
  • Good knowledge and understanding across several power system analysis subjects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Electricity Transmission and the RIIO incentive mechanisms.
  • Have effective verbal and written communication skills across all levels.
  • Be self-motivated and proactively self-manage to delivery continuous improvement and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Have exceptional quality standards and an ongoing desire to push for new approaches.
What you'll get

Salary range - £65,000 - £72,000 depending on skills and experience

  • An annual performance bonus of up to 15% of your eligible earnings in the performance year
  • 37-hour week, with Hybrid working model between Home and Office
  • 28 days annual leave, plus eight statutory days.
