Job summary

A telecommunications services company based in the UK is seeking a Network Design Specialist. This role involves analyzing UE logs, Wireshark traces, and network performance while leading capacity-related events. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of mobile networks, particularly 4G, and experience in performing root cause analysis to improve KPIs. This contract position is expected to start ASAP in Bristol, with a possibility of extension.

Job description

Network Design Specialist - RAN & E2E Performance

Three days onsite in Bristol / Start: ASAP / 3 months contract + possible extension Inside IR35

Your key accountabilities within the RAN & E2E Performance domain are:

• Expertise in UE log analysis, Wireshark tracing, and E2E analysis.
• Act as a lead for capacity-related events.
• Identify the root cause and define measures to improve underperforming KPIs.
• Analyze Drive Test logs and network protocol traces for underperformance & defects in ESN PTT over SRTP.
• Investigate detected and reported systematic issues within this element of the ESN service.
• Perform performance root cause analysis using multiple data sources, primarily from:
  • UE application events / L1 / L2 / L3 information
  • Drive Test UE logs / Wireshark covering OSI L1-L7

Additionally, from:

• ENodeB and CN protocol analysis
• 3rd party OTT protocol traces
• Coverage data
• Capacity data
• OSS performance data
• Change logs

Technical Expertise:

• Expert knowledge of UE logs analysis
• Expert understanding of Accuver UE logging tools
• In-depth knowledge of mobile networks, particularly 4G & Public Safety functionality over LTE, with a deep understanding of design and operation
• In-depth knowledge of LTE & SIP signalling, PTT (push to talk), SRTP/DTLS troubleshooting & optimisation
• Excellent understanding of Nokia and Ericsson RAN products
• Good understanding of 3GPP & ETSI specifications
• Good understanding of DTLS/SRTP protocols
• Extensive experience in the mobile telecommunications industry as a lead designer for high-availability/high-throughput systems and networks
  • Able to provide technical solutions and process definitions for network performance & optimisation of 4G RAN macro networks
  • Proven experience in defining and understanding KPI definitions, formulas, and measurements of radio networks
  • Able to analyze in depth drive test logs, Wireshark traces, and protocol analyzer traces for 4G networks
  • Good knowledge of LTE parameters & timers
  • Familiarity with test software & devices (Nemo, TEMs, Accuver) & post-processing tools (Actix)
  • Experience working with 3rd party network/IT suppliers
  • Experience with Nokia RAN
