Our business is built on delivering excellent service, developing trusted client partnerships and maintaining strong operational efficiency. In a fast-evolving technology market, we continue to strengthen our managed services offering and invest in the talent needed to support our clients, our growth and our long-term ambitions.

Overall purpose

The Network Design Engineer scopes, designs, specifies, and proposes IT network infrastructure and supportable solutions for clients and prospects. Working closely with the Lead Solution Architect and wider commercial and technical teams, this role translates client requirements into technically robust, commercially viable solutions that support customer success, security, efficiency, and OryxAlign's growth plans. The role balances immediate client needs with longer-term technology, service, and commercial objectives, ensuring proposed solutions are practical, sustainable, and aligned to future service requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Sales, Account Management, Professional Services, and Managed Services to scope, design, and propose network infrastructure solutions and transformational projects
  • Provide accurate, evidence-based technical input for tenders and bid responses, including solution overviews, design content, options, risks, and benefits
  • Attend client meetings with Sales and Account Management colleagues, providing consultative support, technical expertise, and clear recommendations
  • Develop detailed network topologies, high- and low-level designs, schematics, and related technical documentation
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of network systems, particularly Cisco, Dell, and Meraki technologies
  • Support complex lifecycle replacement projects to ensure client hardware remains supported and aligned to best practice
  • Develop and maintain client technology roadmaps, IT strategies, and budgets aligned with client goals, commercial priorities, and future service requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify risks, and make recommendations grounded in evidence, cost, value, and supportability
  • Share technical knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement in solution design, documentation, and delivery practices
  • Prioritise workload effectively, provide timely updates, and support successful client handovers and project delivery
  • Complete relevant health and safety training and follow appropriate guidance related to the role
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical understanding of architectural standards and supportable solution requirements
  • Ability to produce clear, well-presented, end-to-end technical solutions and design documentation that explains assumptions, rationale, and expectations
  • Expertise in public cloud infrastructure, infrastructure schematics, network topologies, and related design artefacts
  • Experience contributing to bid management, RFIs, tender responses, and commercially aligned technical proposals
  • Cybersecurity knowledge across relevant platforms and the ability to design secure, supportable client solutions
  • Proficient knowledge of networking, storage, server technologies, hardware, and IP voice technologies
  • Understanding of Smart Building infrastructure and experience working with varied stakeholder groups
  • Working knowledge of project management and ITIL practices
  • Strong written communication, prioritisation, stakeholder coordination, and evidence-based decision-making skills
  • Ability to evaluate technical options by weighing evidence, risk, financial impact, commercial priorities, supportability, and broader business impact
Experience and expertise
  • Cisco certification such as CCNA, or equivalent practical network design experience
  • Advanced Cisco certification such as CCNP or CCDP, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Juniper, HP, and Dell networking technologies
  • Understanding of Smart Building infrastructure, including BMS, PMS, and ACS
