An opportunity has arisen within the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for a Network Architect. This full-time role, based on a hybrid work model, involves designing and overseeing network infrastructures and ensuring smooth service transitions. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Network Architect on a permanent basis. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week.
This is a full time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share, or flexible working basis would be considered.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in the architecture and design of the network infrastructure and voice services (including 999 voice services), both on-premises and within a multi-cloud environment which are delivered to support the business of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). This includes responsibility for designing, developing and creating solution designs and overviews to ensure they are both optimal and meet the needs of SFRS, as well as ensuring the smooth transition of services into the operational phase of the service lifecycle. Acting as the primary lead for all network and voice services related project work, and as a key member of the Digital and Technology Services (DaTS) extended management team, the role has responsibility for leading a small team of senior network engineers who will collectively be assigned to the delivery of specific projects from the annual DaTS Programme of Work. This highly technical role requires exceptional knowledge across a wide range of network technologies, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, firewall, corporate telephony and internet services, together with their associated systems.
Applicants are required to have a degree level qualification in a digital networking discipline or equivalent experience. Certification in relevant network technologies or the ability to demonstrate the commitment and capability to obtain them is essential. This includes actively engaging in professional development to stay current with industry standard and best practices. Deep technical knowledge and extensive experience in the design, transition and support of relevant enterprise telephony, cloud, local and wide area networks, both on-premises and within a multi-cloud environment, and their associated systems if also required. First-hand experience of using a formal Enterprise Architecture methodology to evaluate and enhance an enterprise’s architectural performance is essential.
In addition to the agreed salary, a market allowance is applicable to this post for suitably experienced candidates. Taking account of this market allowance, the potential combined maximum remuneration for this post is £66,600. The salary range for this role is SFRS Grade 8 £53,875 - £56,600 per annum, and where applicable a market allowance of £10,000 per annum will also be included.
The market allowance is an additional payment agreed to be paid for an initial twoyear period. This allowance is subject to review and may be varied or removed where market pressures change or no longer exist. SFRS Market Allowance Policy outlines the specific criteria relating to the application of market allowance payments and the conditions associated with this. The market allowance will be payable where the appointee is able to demonstrate they are suitably competent, experienced and qualified to undertake the full aspects of the role.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
