JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Net Zero Buildings Manager
EA SERVICE: Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) Service
REPORTS TO: Senior Quality, Energy and Sustainability (QES) Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for up to 5 staff members and will lead the strategic and operational management of new technologies, strategies, and financial models to maximize energy efficiency and implement renewable technologies across diverse projects to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Additionally, they will oversee 30 or more technical staff, managing internal and external multidisciplinary teams to deliver energy projects. Collaboration with senior EA colleagues, external partners, and stakeholders is essential to meet the EA’s energy and sustainability ambitions, legislative requirements, and to support the voluntary and grant-maintained sectors.
JOB PURPOSE:
The role's overall purpose is to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the EA’s Energy and Carbon Reduction Strategy and Action Plan, providing a clear roadmap for energy and cost savings across schools and the EA estate. The post holder will be responsible for delivering initiatives aligned with the EA’s Net Zero ambitions and supporting legislative targets, acting as a recognized authority in innovative use of technologies, strategies, and financial models for decarbonization and efficiency improvements.
The role involves leading transformational change, embedding emerging technologies, and ensuring continuous service improvement to meet the needs of schools and the EA estate. Monitoring and analyzing energy performance data, developing business processes, and advising on legislative compliance are key responsibilities. The post holder will also work closely with external agencies and internal teams to ensure strategic alignment and effective implementation of energy projects.
The role requires providing leadership, strategic planning, policy influence, and management of resources, including staff and budgets, to support the EA’s climate change and sustainability goals. Engagement with stakeholders, representing the EA externally, and supporting staff development are integral to the position.
