Job summary

StarVale is seeking a .NET Web Developer to rewrite existing PHP sites in .NET, migrate Laravel/CodeIgniter to the .NET platform, and integrate them with core business systems. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to shape shared architecture and uphold high engineering standards.

You will modernise legacy .NET systems, design using ASP.NET Core, EF Core, and SQL Server, and contribute to documentation, testing, and reviews in a hybrid office setting in Galgate, Lancaster.

Qualifications

• Solid commercial experience with C# and ASP.NET Core (or strong ASP.NET MVC with a path to Core).
• Experience with Entity Framework Core (or EF) and SQL Server.
• Comfortable with HTML, CSS, JavaScript alongside server-rendered .NET views or Razor Pages.
• Experience migrating/integrating systems across platforms/frameworks.
• Ability to read PHP (Laravel/CodeIgniter) to translate functionality to .NET.
• Strong understanding of routing, auth, forms, and SEO basics.

Responsibilities

• Design and build ASP.NET Core websites targeting modern .NET versions (including .NET 10).
• Migrate Laravel and CodeIgniter sites to .NET while preserving functionality, SEO, and data integrity.
• Work with Umbraco CMS—extending or building sites as needed.
• Integrate websites with core .NET systems and SQL Server databases.
• Write and maintain EF Core data access code and migrate data from MySQL to SQL Server.
• Document business logic and edge cases before decommissioning PHP sites.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, libraries, and coding standards.
• Write clean, tested code and participate in code reviews.

What will you be doing?

We’re looking for a .NET Web Developer to join us in this hands‑on build‑and‑migrate role. You will be rewriting existing PHP websites in .NET, integrating them with our business systems, and helping shape how we structure our shared architecture going forward. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, you will support day‑to‑day business needs, solve complex technical challenges, and contribute to high‑quality engineering practices through code reviews, documentation, and collaborative solution design.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like

Your daily work will centre on maintaining, modernising, and progressively transforming our legacy .NET systems while supporting the smooth running of core business operations across StarVale. You can expect to:

• Design and build ASP.NET Core websites targeting modern .NET versions (including .NET 10)
• Migrate Laravel and CodeIgniter sites to the .NET platform while preserving functionality, SEO, and data integrity
• Work with Umbraco CMS — extending existing implementations or building new sites where appropriate
• Integrate websites with core .NET business systems and SQL Server databases
• Write and maintain EF Core data access code, including migrating data from MySQL to SQL Server
• Document business logic and edge cases from existing PHP sites before decommissioning
• Contribute to shared architecture decisions, internal libraries, and coding standards
• Write clean, tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews

What You’ll Be Able to Bring to the Role

Essential

• Solid commercial experience with C# and ASP.NET Core (or strong ASP.NET MVC experience with a clear path to Core)
• Experience with Entity Framework Core (or EF) and relational databases (SQL Server)
• Comfortable working with front‑end fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) alongside server‑rendered .NET views or Razor Pages
• Experience migrating or integrating systems between different platforms or frameworks
• Ability to read and understand PHP (Laravel and/or CodeIgniter) well enough to translate existing functionality into .NET — you won't be writing new PHP, but you'll need to understand what's there
• Good understanding of web fundamentals: routing, authentication, forms, SEO basics (URL structure, redirects)

Mindset & Soft Skills

• Migration Mindset: Confidence to evaluate legacy code, challenge outdated practices, and guide non-technical stakeholders through modernized technical solutions.
• Problem Solver: Highly resourceful with strong initiative, able to own projects independently from requirements-gathering to deployment.
• Communication: Excellent people skills to liaise effectively between technical teams, external auditors, and cross-departmental stakeholders.

Preferred:

• Experience with Umbraco CMS
• Experience with Blazor
• Familiarity with Azure or other cloud hosting for .NET applications
• Experience leading or contributing to a platform migration or legacy system modernization
• Understanding of REST API design, for connecting websites to internal business systems

• Ability to work within agile environments, including Kanban and Sprints.

Salary Banding: £35,000–£45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
