Job summary

Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds, is recruiting a Band 7 Paediatric/Neonatal Physiotherapist to join our dedicated AHP team delivering high-quality developmental care for babies and families. The post will cover neonatal units across Leeds Teaching Hospitals, providing advanced neonatal physiotherapy assessment, family-centred care, and opportunities for leadership and service improvement.

It is based at Leeds General Infirmary with involvement across St James' University Hospital.

Qualifications

We at Leeds Children's have received substantive funding provided by NHS England to enhance our neonatal and neurodevelopmental Physiotherapy service.The successful candidates will be joining an established team of experienced physiotherapists covering the Leeds Neonatal Units and Neurodevelopmental follow up within outpatient and clinic settings, providing highly specialised care to support the management of high-risk babies from preterm to 2 years.
We are looking for Physiotherapists with:

• Significant post registration experience of at least 5 years within Paediatric physiotherapy.
• Broad experience within the acute paediatric settings.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of specialist neonatal physiotherapy support within the model of Family Integrated Care to infants and families across both Neonatal Units within Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Our Neonatal Unit at Leeds General Infirmary is a busy level three unit, including surgical, cardiac and neurological specialties. Currently the neonatal Unit at St James is a level one unit.
The role will use highly specialist skills to manage their own complex caseload, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. They will be responsible for providing advanced neonatal physiotherapy assessment, advice and interventions with babies who are most at risk of developmental issues in the future, and to support the neonatal unit with promoting and delivering family integrated developmental care.
This is an exciting opportunity to further develop and expand our physiotherapy neonatal service. The post holder will work closely with the other Band 7 Physiotherapists in post.
As part of the wider Children's Physiotherapy team responsibilities, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the paediatric respiratory weekend and out of hours service. There will be training and support opportunities available to ensure competencies. The successful candidate will also be involved in wider leadership and team management of Children's Physiotherapy services;
This post will offer hours up to full time, accepting a minimum of three days covering Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Why you should join our Team
The childrens physiotherapy team is a team of approximately 40 physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants who work across Leeds Childrens Hospital. They have a wide scope of experience and enjoy developing and teaching new members of the team. The team is based on the Leeds General Infirmary site but also covers the Neonatal Unit at St James Hospital. Transport is available to move between sites for staff.
What you will bring to the role
The post holder will work as part of the children's physiotherapy team, providing highly specialised care to support the management of babies and children with neurological development delay from preterm to 2 years.
The post holder will work closely with the Neonatal Multidisciplinary teams to provide assessment and treatment of patients on the Neonatal unit, clinics Nursery and Home and outpatients.
They will provide leadership within the children’s Physiotherapy teams demonstrating a high standard of leadership skills and behaviours.
Based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital, the post holder will support the inpatient therapists and outpatient service for management of these patients and liaise closely with other hospitals and community services for on going management of these patients. The post holder will act as the link person for the families in this service.
Key relationships will be with other physiotherapists at both Leeds and the regional hospitals including the paediatric physiotherapy team, Occupational therapy team , specialist nurses, medical staff, dietician, psychologist, speech and language therapist, play therapist, community services, social services and education services.
The post holder will contribute to the paediatric out of hours service at the Leeds Children’s Hospital.
