Job summary

We’re seeking a confident Enforcement Officer to tackle environmental crime and anti-social behaviour within our communities in Luton. You’ll investigate complaints, gather evidence and take appropriate action under relevant legislation and powers.

This fixed-term secondment role requires 37 hours per week, with salary £34,237–£37,563 p.a. pro rata plus a £15,00 Market Supplement & £78 washing allowance. Internal and external applicants are welcome.

Contract type: Internal Secondment / Fixed Term for 3 years

This role is available for 3 years. Internal candidates who are permanent employees of Luton Council will be appointed on a secondment basis, while external candidates and other eligible applicants will be appointed on a fixed-term contract for 3 years.

What You’ll be doing

We’re looking for aconfident and professional Enforcement Officer to help tackle environmental crime and anti-social behaviour within our communities.

You’ll work with members of the public, investigate complaints, gather evidence and take appropriate action within relevant legislation, procedures and enforcement powers. You’ll need to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging or confrontational situations, while providing clear advice andsupport.

This is a varied role where you’ll need to manage competing priorities, workindependently and use your initiative. You’ll also complete reports, correspondence and computerised records accurately.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have experience in enforcement, ideally relating to environmental crime, anti-social behaviour or a similar area, and experience of working with the general public.

You’ll be aconfident communicator who can dealpolitely and assertively with a wide range of people. You’ll be organised, able to investigate issues, gather evidence and make sound decisions while following established procedures.

You’ll have anunderstanding of relevant environmental protection and anti-social behaviour legislation, investigation and evidence-gathering processes, Data Protection, Health and Safety and equality issues.

Candidates that do not have relevant enforcement experience, but demonstrate that they potentially have the skills required to be able to do this job with training, will be considered on a ‘potential to recruit ‘basis. This role starts on L5 salary band (£30,024 - £32,597) and increases to L6 (£33,143 - £36,363) on the successful completion of on the job, enforcement training.
