Job Description

Your new company: Due to the partnership between Hays and Birmingham City Council, we are looking to recruit a Caretaker to support their neighbourhood team. Being the largest leading local authority in the whole of Europe, Birmingham City Council is renowned for their expertise in public services and endless opportunities. Birmingham City Council provides the city's residents with a number of services to ensure stability within citizens' daily lives.

Your new role: This role is essential as caretaking staff keep the blocks, estates, and neighbourhoods clean and safe and contribute to the City's cleaner, greener commitment to its residents. As a landlord, Birmingham City Council has a legal obligation towards cleaning and maintenance within multi-storey blocks for which tenants pay a service charge.

You will manage a team of Estate Caretakers and will be tasked with providing a cleaning service to all high-rise and low-rise blocks within Central/North Birmingham. There is a strong emphasis on Fire Safety and keeping the blocks in a good state of repair. Some basic building knowledge would be an advantage, but training will be provided on all aspects of the role. The City Council also operates tipper vehicles to collect fly tip waste from housing land, and you may be asked on occasions to drive this vehicle; therefore, you must hold a full driving license.

What you'll need to succeed: You must have a full, clean UK driving license and access to your own vehicle to cover multiple sites across north and central Birmingham, as well as needing a full driving license to operate the tipper vehicles. You must also possess business insurance or be willing to add this to your insurance policy once offered the position. This role is an ASAP start once compliant, so please be willing to undergo driving checks, as well as right to work and reference checks before starting.

What you'll get in return: You will be paid an hourly rate of £13.45 per hour inclusive of holiday allowance for the first 13 weeks, then you will get a rate uplift to £15.56 inclusive of holiday allowance whilst working this longer-term temporary ongoing contract. As a Hays contractor, you will have a dedicated consultant who will support you throughout the recruitment process as well as whilst you are at work. You will be given access to our training platform, where you can assign yourself to free online training to enhance your own skills.
