Pay Rate: £45 per hour Umbrella LTD
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Somerset
About the Role: We’re recruiting for an experienced NEC4 Site Supervisor / Highways Supervisor to oversee the construction phase of a project on behalf of our client in Somerset. This is a key site-based role working within the council’s delivery team to ensure the project is constructed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
Acting as the NEC Supervisor, you will conduct daily inspections, monitor works, and manage the defects process, ensuring compliance with the NEC4 ECC contract. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the D&B contractor and internal Project Team to support project progress, identify issues early, and deliver efficient, value-driven solutions in line with best practice.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily site inspections to monitor compliance with specifications, RAMS, ITPs, CPPs, and scope
  • Manage the defects process, issuing notifications and ensuring timely resolutions
  • Support the Project Manager with Clause 32 programmes, Early Warnings, and Compensation Events
  • Coordinate and participate in quality and safety audits, ensuring environmental and H&S compliance
  • Work with the Highways Lab to coordinate materials testing
  • Produce comprehensive weekly site reports and monthly quality management contributions
  • Support stakeholder communications and provide project delivery updates at regular meetings
  • Collaborate with the NEC PM and QS to assist with valuation of CE’s, payment applications, and programme reviews
  • Ensure works meet Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works and traffic management standards
  • Maintain detailed site records of labour, plant, materials, and progress against the works programme
Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Strong experience on highways construction projects with excellent knowledge of methods and safety practices
  • Good working knowledge of NEC contracts, especially the Supervisor role under ECC
  • Understanding of traffic management schemes, CDM regulations, and H&S legislation
  • Skilled in identifying defects and coordinating testing and quality assessments
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication and report writing abilities
  • Proficiency with CEMAR (desirable) and good general IT skills
Qualifications Required:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • NEC4 Supervisor Accreditation (highly desirable)
  • Valid CSCS card
  • SSSTS certification (desirable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
