Job summary

Morson Group is recruiting an experienced NDT Technician with a strong welding inspection background to join a UK defence engineering and manufacturing organisation in Huddersfield.

You will inspect complex welded, fabricated and machined components, supporting manufacturing in a highly regulated environment. The role covers welding inspection, MPI, DPI, and NDT across TIG, MAG, FCAW and MCAW processes.

Qualifications

• CSWIP 3.1 minimum requirement.
• PCN Level 2 – DPI (Sector 6, Method 22) and MPI (Sector 2, Method 21) credentials.
• Experience with welding inspection and NDT techniques.
• Ability to interpret complex fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent QMS.

Responsibilities

• Carry out visual inspection of welds and dimensional verification.
• Perform MPI and DPI on weldments, forgings, machined components and castings.
• Provide quality oversight across welding, fabrication and NDT activities.
• Inspect carbon steel, copper nickel and stainless‑steel piping systems.
• Audit heavy‑section fabrication and complex pipe systems.
• Work across TIG, MAG, FCAW and MCAW welding processes.
• Review WPS, WPQR, welder qualifications and supplier welding documentation.
• Identify, characterise and document defects against standards.
• Raise and support investigation of non‑conformance reports.
• Produce inspection documentation, quality alerts and technical reports.
• Conduct internal and supplier welding/quality audits.
• Support project, supplier and customer quality meetings.

NDT Technician – Welding Biased

Location: Huddersfield
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours
Travel: Up to 5% UK

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting for an experienced NDT Technician with a strong welding inspection background to join a specialist UK defence engineering and manufacturing organisation.

Working within the Quality and NDT function, you’ll take responsibility for the inspection and quality control of complex welded, fabricated and machined components, supporting manufacturing within a highly regulated engineering environment.

This is a hands‑on technical position covering welding inspection, MPI, DPI, fabrication quality and NDT, working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and external suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Experience

• CSWIP 3.1 minimum
• PCN Level 2 – DPI, Sector 6, Method 22
• PCN Level 2 – MPI, Sector 2, Method 21
• Welding, NDT or related engineering experience
• Strong knowledge of TIG, MAG, FCAW and MCAW
• Ability to interpret complex fabrication drawings and welding symbols
• Experience inspecting welded and fabricated components
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent quality management systems
• Ability to interpret technical standards, specifications and acceptance criteria
• Experience producing detailed inspection reports and documenting defects
• Experience working within a manufacturing, shop‑floor or heavy engineering environment

Welding Standards

Knowledge/familiarity with:

• BS EN ISO 15614-1 / 15614-6 – welding procedure qualification
• BS EN ISO 9606-1 – welder qualification
• BS EN ISO 5817 or equivalent – visual welding inspection
• WPS / WPQR documentation and compliance

Desirable

• PCN Level 2 UT – Weldments
• Additional PCN Level 2 DPI certification
• ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor training
• Ability to produce WPS documentation from an approved WPQR
• Manual handling experience
• Lifting and slinging experience

The Environment

You’ll be joining a high‑integrity defence manufacturing environment, working with complex mechanical components, fabricated structures and piping systems where quality, traceability and compliance are critical.

The successful candidate will need to meet UK Right to Work, security clearance and export‑control requirements.
