Job Title: Naval Radar Principal Systems Engineer

Location: Isle of Wight – Cowes

Salary: Up to £70,600, commensurate with skills and experience. Part-time & accruing hours available.

Take on a dynamic Principal Systems Engineering role at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. Your responsibilities will include ensuring operational excellence for existing products and developing next-generation radar systems to counter emerging threats, contributing to new technology strategies. Your daily work will involve applying Systems Engineering principles across the entire development lifecycle in developing radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.

What you’ll be doing:

• Develop innovative solutions to technical challenges facing complex Radar Systems for our customers and end-user communities.
• Apply Systems Engineering principles, techniques, and governance to develop solutions and resolve engineering issues.
• Conduct system design analysis to manage trade-offs and specify robust product designs.
• Lead requirement decomposition to system and sub-system levels, managing these in tools like IBM DOORS Next.
• Serve as a technical focal point with a holistic understanding of system solutions, leading analysis activities and design decisions, and guiding your team.
• Collaborate with specialists across disciplines including electronics, electrical, mechanical, and software engineering to realize system design solutions.
• Oversee system integration, testing, planning, and execution.
• Define system acceptance strategies and demonstrate system performance across operational scenarios to stakeholders.
• Build your profile with senior stakeholders and expand your engineering knowledge base.

Your skills and experience:

• Understanding of signal processing, target tracking, object classification algorithms, and system and sensor resource optimization.
• Knowledge of factors affecting sensing system performance and their impact on measurement accuracy and timeliness.
• Experience with Systems Engineering standards (e.g., ISO 15288).
• Experience presenting technical and non-technical information in formal settings.

The Radar Systems Engineering team:

You will work as a Principal Systems Engineer within our interdisciplinary radar team, evolving our radar portfolio to address emerging and future threats. This role offers opportunities to develop technical leadership and enhance your skills in cutting-edge radar techniques, with flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
