Manpower UK is seeking a Naval Architect for a permanent role based at Portsmouth Naval Base with hybrid working. You will support the Royal Navy surface fleet worldwide, performing structural and stability analyses to ensure vessel capability and safety.

The candidate should hold a degree in Naval Architecture or related field and have hands-on experience with ANSYS Workbench, Paramarine, and CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Inventor.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Naval Architecture / Marine Technology / Ship Science is essential.
  • Experience with structural analysis using ANSYS Workbench is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with PARAMARINE is advantageous.
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or Inventor is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analyses using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis software and theoretical methods.
  • Conduct stability analyses using Paramarine naval architecture software.
  • Participate in inclining experiments and post‑experiment analysis.
  • Design ship modifications and capability upgrades.
  • Undertake technical analysis for drydocking of ships.
  • Support through-life maintenance and ship operations.

A Naval Architect is sought for a permanent position in Portsmouth, offering a hybrid working pattern and a salary of up to £45,000 per annum plus benefits. Core duties
  • Conducting structural analyses using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis software and theoretical methods

  • Taking part in inclining experiments of naval ships and completing the post-experiment analysis
  • Design of ship modifications and capability upgrades
  • Undertaking the technical analysis required for drydocking of ships
  • Lending expertise to the through-life maintenance and support of ships
  • Consulting on naval base facilities which require naval architecture knowledge
  • Participating in a wide range of activities including concept upgrade design, detailed design, support to build, delivery and in service support to surface ship platforms and naval base facilities
Essential skills
  • Qualified to degree level, BEng/MEng in Naval Architecture /Marine Technology/ Ship Science is essential
  • Experience of structural analysis using ANSYS Workbench is advantageous
  • Familiarity of naval architectural software, preferably PARAMARINE is advantageous
  • Experience of CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor is advantageous
