An exciting opportunity exists to join a flexible, dynamic, and motivated team within Lloyd's Register's Ship Emergency Response Service (SERS). The pioneering service, which has been in operation for over 30 years, provides round-the-clock access to technical advice for the maritime community during shipboard emergencies such as flooding, grounding, explosion, or loss of stability.

The role

  • An ideal opportunity for a recent graduate.
  • Fixed-term contract for two years.
  • Training to participate in drills and emergencies as a member of the SERS on-call team.
  • Preparing and maintaining computer models of marine assets.
  • Developing and maintaining emergency response tools and procedures.
  • Delivering training internally and externally.
  • Undertaking consultancy projects.
  • Pursuing continual professional development to stay updated with current vessel operations and technology trends.

What you bring

  • A degree or equivalent from a recognized tertiary organization in engineering or physical sciences (minimum two-year program), or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution with relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work towards set timelines.
  • Working efficiently under time pressure with speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills suitable for various audiences.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Skills in project coordination.
  • Membership of a professional institution and working towards chartered status.
  • Beneficial skills include awareness of ship operations, experience with 2D/3D modelling software, and legal right to work in the UK.
