Nature Based (NBS) Senior Project Manager
Based at: Bristol, England (hybrid 3 days a week required in the Bristol office). Occasional overseas travel may be required
Salary: Offering up to £50,000, commensurate with skills and experience

Job Purpose Summary: CO2balance is a carbon management consultancy and project developer, specializing in delivering high-impact, community-based projects for climate change mitigation. Established in 2003, we work directly with local communities, NGOs and businesses to provide climate change solutions in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to manage the development and delivery of our growing nature-based portfolio as we build a global pipeline of Gold Standard and VERRA registered afforestation, blue carbon and REDD projects. We are looking for a commercially aware, highly motivated senior project manager with experience in delivering large scale nature-based projects; whilst also being able to design projects and support in securing investment in future project opportunities.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Project Management
- Manage the coordination and implementation of high impact nature-based carbon projectsglobally whilst being based in the UK
- Manage the identification, due diligence and contracting of implementing partners
- Lead contract amendment negotiations and support project partners in scaling their operations
- Provide comprehensive project reporting and maintain robust record keeping
- Maintain project integrity and manage long-term contracts with implementing partners
- Work with the technical teams to develop project implementation plans and budgets that comply with carbon standards and funder/investor requirements
- Work with technical teams to develop and roll out standard operating procedures and training plans to ensure that implementing partners deliver high quality project outputs
- Set targets, track and report on project delivery to ensure contractual milestones are delivered on time whilst communicating project delivery risks
- Engage in regular communication and visits to project sites to fortify relationships and project success
- Manage the timely delivery of quantitative and qualitative field data using Kobo and additional dMRV tools as required
- Provide comprehensive project reporting and maintain robust record keeping that is aligned with investor and carbon standard requirements
- Ensure that projects are delivered on-time and within budget
- Assist with developing marketing materials from the project portfolio to provide to investors and aid future credit sales
New Project Development
- Work with the commercial team on future project design, due diligence and budgeting to create high quality investable project opportunities
- Work with the commercial and sales team in the creation of project idea notes and financial information to aid future investment opportunities
- With support from the technical team, manage pre-investment activities such as feasibility studies and pilots to demonstrate implementing partners ability to deliver high quality, profitable projects on time
- Research trends in carbon markets and other emerging markets e.g. biodiversity credits, Article 6, CORSIA to identify future project opportunities
General
- Become a subject expert in project contracts and manage project risks and compliance.
- Line management and support for carbon project managers and officers
- Attend conferences and training as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Role Requirements
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and take initiative without close supervision.
- Proven experience in nature-based project management or large-scale project development with budgets in the region of $10m.
- Strong and proven commercial contract management and negotiation skills.
- Adept at working in emerging markets and understanding local project delivery challenges.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication abilities in English, both spoken and written.
