Job description

National Head of Research Delivery NMAHPs

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to be appointed as the National Head of Research Delivery NMAHPs (up to 0.6 WTE).

This will be a fixed term / secondment for 18 months until the 31st August 2027.

The Head of Research Delivery - NMAHPs is a highly visible role leading, driving the agenda for excellence in research delivery across Wales.

The role provides expert, professional knowledge and advice to Health and Care Research Wales in the development and implementation of national and local research and development (R&D) strategy in line with Welsh Government policy.

The post holder will be a registered nurse, midwife, allied health professional or health care scientist, with a proven track record in research delivery in health and social care and particularly NHS environments. You will need to be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills, and a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Provide national, professional leadership for Health and Care Research Wales funded (wholly or part) registered nurses and midwives, and allied health professionals and the advancement of these professions within Health and Care Research Wales.

Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training to research delivery professionals and develops national standards and competencies for health and social care research delivery in Wales to ensure clinical and service excellence across health and social care settings and organisations.

Resolve systematic barriers to the delivery of health and social care research.

Represent Health and Care Research Wales in national, UK and international planning and debate on associated topics including NHS and social care service strategy, research and development funding, trial development and management and research infrastructure development.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience in, the planning, co-ordination and conduct of Health and Social Care research and research services delivery and related workforce development
  • Advanced theoretical and clinical knowledge in own profession
Experience
  • Experience of professional leadership at Board level or equivalent
  • Proven track record and experience in the field of clinical research delivery at a senior level
  • Experience of research delivery in a wide variety of contexts including primary and community and secondary care
  • Knowledge and familiarity with all aspects of clinical data management, particularly confidentiality
  • Detailed knowledge of national research policy and current issues in NHS Wales services delivery
  • Experience in financial and project management
  • Detailed knowledge of the Regulatory requirements governing clinical research
  • Experience and ability to plan strategically
  • Previous experience of management of staff, recruitment & selection, capability, disciplinary, mentoring and governance
  • Experience of working within the National Health Service
  • Experience of team building, coaching and other management / leadership techniques
