Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in Hillingdon. This role will be responsible for ensuring high-quality safeguarding children practice across our Hillingdon services. It involves working alongside other Named Professionals to deliver our Safeguarding Children agenda across the Trust.

We seek an experienced safeguarding children practitioner who can provide expert advice, supervision, training, and support to our services. This full-time role requires a dynamic, responsive practitioner with a high level of safeguarding experience.

Cost allowances (HCAS) will be at the Outer London rate. Although based in Hillingdon, travel across other sites will be required.

If you are passionate about safeguarding children's needs, this could be the role for you. You will be supported by the Head of Safeguarding Children and other Named Professionals within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

To provide expert safeguarding children advice and strategic leadership within Hillingdon services, with potential to support Trust-wide safeguarding efforts.

To offer safeguarding advice, education, and training to maintain clinical excellence for staff involved with children and their carers. Also, to support staff across agencies on health issues involving children.

To collaborate with CNWL Named Professionals, Named Doctors, and Safeguarding Children Advisors to ensure high-quality, evidence-based health services for safeguarding children.

To work with Safeguarding Adult / Mental Capacity Act specialists to promote a 'Think Family' approach and amplify the voice of the person within health service delivery.

To provide information and assurance to the Designated Nurses regarding the effectiveness of commissioned services aimed at safeguarding children.

To contribute to the local Safeguarding Children Partnership (SCP) work and undertake any necessary health contributions.

To deliver safeguarding supervision and training, raising concerns with relevant managers or leaders.

Job responsibilities
  1. Lead in implementing government and local guidance to improve the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children.
  2. Contribute to the Safeguarding Children Partnership, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.
  3. Work with Designated Nurses and Doctors to ensure consistent practice supporting vulnerable children and families.
  4. Partner with Named Professionals to enable staff to deliver coordinated services for vulnerable children.
  5. Develop strategy, policy, and procedures within the CNWL Safeguarding Team.
  6. Ensure clinical governance principles are integral to safeguarding arrangements.
  7. Collect data, produce reports, and update relevant professionals on service implications.
  8. Provide operational and strategic leadership, expert advice, and support on safeguarding issues.
  9. Promote a 'Think Family' approach, especially where parental vulnerabilities affect children.
  10. Support escalation pathways and threshold decisions for safeguarding.
  11. Contribute to annual safeguarding reports, priorities, and work plans.
  12. Lead on key safeguarding initiatives within the Trust.
  13. Deliver and monitor safeguarding supervision across services.
  14. Assist practitioners in attending case conferences and meetings.
  15. Develop collaborative interagency working, especially on domestic abuse.
  16. Coordinate safeguarding training across the Trust and evaluate its effectiveness.
  17. Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures across agencies relevant to health and safeguarding.
  18. Review research and safeguarding reviews, sharing lessons learned.
  19. Lead the Hillingdon Safeguarding Children Team, including line management responsibilities.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Extensive experience in community or specialist safeguarding roles.
  • Experience delivering training and developing training programs.
  • Significant safeguarding children experience, including supervision and audits.
  • Knowledge of developing policies and guidelines.
  • Experience as a Safeguarding Children Advisor.
  • Relevant post-registration safeguarding training.
  • Working towards or holding a Master's level of expert practice.
Qualifications
  • UK Registered Nurse.
  • Degree-level education.
