Are you currently working in a community or acute Midwifery environment and looking for a change?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Named Midwife to join our current multidisciplinary Safeguarding team within the Trust, this is an opportunity to join the safeguarding hub as an experienced safeguarding Midwife.

Our safeguarding teams work collaboratively in a single hub which encompasses CYP, maternity and adult safeguarding teams alongside mental health, and learning disability nurses. You will lead the provision of a robust safeguarding service in relation to Maternity care across the Darent Valley and Queen Mary\'s Sidcup Hospital sites, and community settings.

Main duties of the job

You will lead and coordinate the safeguarding and promotion of women and birthing people and their baby\'s welfare within the Trust and across a multi-agency arena, and be a source of expertise to all staff on safeguarding issues including the provision of statutory and mandatory training, and the identification of vulnerable service users. You will advise the Trust on all matters related to risk management and safeguarding in relation to Maternity care. The post holder will work collaboratively within the safeguarding hub, offering advice and expertise to other safeguarding professionals.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • 1st level registration with the NMC as a registered Midwife
  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Substantial post registration safeguarding experience at Band 7
  • Acute hospital safeguarding experience

Person Specification
Experience
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Extensive experience of working with women and birthing people and their families in need of safeguarding and protection.
  • Previous experience of working in a safeguarding specialty
  • Experience of providing direct supervision to health professionals.
  • Able to assess and analyse complex information and produce reports as required for the audience
  • Ability to communicate flexibly in verbal and written formats including to those with barriers to understanding
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Up to date knowledge of national legislation, policies and guidance in to safeguarding women and birthing people, and their families
  • Management course
  • Experience of undertaking audit/research
Education and Training
  • Educated to degree level
  • Masters in relevant subject or working towards
  • Masters in Safeguarding
Communication
  • Able to assess and analyse complex information and produce reports as required for the audience
  • Ability to present to Trust Executive level meetings
  • Experience of presenting to external meetings
