Job summary

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) invites applications for the role of Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET). Based at the Service Support Centre, 99 Boucher Crescent, Belfast, you will inspect, diagnose and maintain the fleet of vehicles and equipment across trades.

Hours are 36¼ per week, with a regional on-call rota including antisocial hours to support emergency response. Fixed-term posts for three years; salary £36,124–£37,938 per annum.

Qualifications

• Experience inspecting fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
• Familiarity with planned maintenance schedules.

Three fixed term posts for a duration of 3 years

The Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) is responsible for the Inspection, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repair, bodywork, Coach building and modification to all vehicles and equipment within the NIFRS fleet of Vehicles and Operational equipment. The MET will be expected to work across differing trade disciplines in carrying out their role.

Hours of work;
Currently 36¼ hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm.
A Flexible Working Hours Scheme is in operation.
In view of the level of this appointment, the post holder will be required to participate in the Regional Engineering on call Rota which involves working antisocial hours including weekends and late nights in order to support emergency response operations.

There is currently three fixed term posts (for a duration of three years). Posts are based at NIFRS Service Support Centre, 99 Boucher Crescent, Belfast, BT12 6HU. This recruitment and selection process will also be used to fill future vacancies, a reserve list will be created for 12 months should any additional permanent or fixed term vacancies arise (offers of posts will be made in merit order).

Salary
The salary is SO2. The salary range is currently £36,124 - £37,938 per annum (Under Review).
