Job description

Location: Brecon

Salary: GRADE 7 £33,366 - £35,235

Hours: 25.9 hours per week

Fixed Term Contract: Until 31 March 2028

Closing Date: 2nd June 2025

The Role

The Project Officer will be employed by the BBNPA and work with the Mynydd Iach Penderyn Partnership (MIPP), its members, and organizations including farmers, approximately 3.5 days a week. The role involves leading the administration and delivery of the project according to the Project Plan and budget. The project focuses on building partnership capacity for nature recovery, land use for net zero, and sustainable agriculture on Manor Penderyn Common, with potential extension into local areas.

Responsibilities include convening meetings, planning and evaluating project delivery and budgets, conducting and commissioning evaluations, developing grant applications, liaising with experts, managing contracts, drafting site management plans, monitoring grant opportunities, and advising MIPP.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, and possess excellent communication skills. Knowledge of hill farming, commons grazing, and the natural environment, along with a commitment to nature recovery and sustainable land use, is essential. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required; Welsh language skills are advantageous but not essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain organized records of all project activities.
  • Communicate effectively with MIPP members and stakeholders.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings and workshops, including preparing agendas and minutes.
  • Arrange annual site visits, coordinating logistics and accommodations.
  • Manage and report on the quarterly project budget, including year-end review.
  • Update and maintain the project risk assessment.
  • Ensure procurement and expenditure comply with BBNPA financial procedures.
  • Coordinate with communication teams for public information related to the project.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in project coordination or administration.
  • Experience in livestock farming and commons management.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve objectives.
  • Knowledge of document and data management.
  • Experience preparing reports for funders.
  • Budget management and financial reporting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in teams.
  • Experience organizing meetings and note-taking.
  • Self-organized with good planning skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient in IT, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and Outlook.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions.
  • Innovative mindset and commitment to high-quality service.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Welsh Language Level 0.
