Job summary

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) invites applications for a Music Therapist to deliver youth-focused music therapy in community settings, based at the Child Development Centre in Peterborough. The post is fixed-term for 9 months and funded by Youth Music via CPFT Head to Toe Charity.

The successful applicant will provide individual and group sessions, work with families and multi-disciplinary teams, and contribute to outcome measures to demonstrate impact on recovery

Job description

This post is a Fixed Term of 9 months in the Cambridge and Peterborough Arts Therapies Service.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, highly enthusiastic and motivated Music Therapist who is passionate about placing young people’s needs at the centre of their clinical work and who is interested in delivering a high standard of clinical Music Therapy sessions for young people. This post is supported by Youth Music grant funding via the CPFT Head to Toe Charity and provides community-based Music Therapy which presently takes place at the Child Development Centre in Peterborough. Music Therapists previously involved in the Youth Music project have been recognised through national awards; CAPHO, HSJ, and with a publication through Public Health England and have presented the project at the Royal College of Psychiatry.

The Music Therapist will be managed and clinically supervised within the CPFT Arts Therapies Service which innovatively promotes recovery and resilience. Music Therapists within the Arts Therapies team are experienced and have a wealth of knowledge to share with the appointed Music Therapist and so this post offers an opportunity for a Music Therapist to develop their existing skills.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist Music Therapy assessment and intervention, both individual and group, and to review the effectiveness of interventions using outcome measures as required by the Arts Therapies Professional Lead.

To work collaboratively with people, their carers and families, and multidisciplinary teams and to plan Music Therapy interventions.

To manage a specialist case load, providing assessment, diagnoses, treatment and monitoring of individuals identified needs across the Arts Therapies Service.

To participate in multi-disciplinary/ multi agency working within the Arts Therapies. and with key partners.

• To participate in the delivery of Music Therapy under the guidance of a specialist band 7 Arts Therapist and the Lead Arts Therapist by managing a caseload of clients.
• To maintain professional standards in accordance with the relevant professional body BAMT and the professional regulator (Health and Care Professions Council)
• To participate in audit, service evaluation and research activities when required
• To participate in the delivery of Music Therapy under the guidance of specialist band 7 Arts Therapist and the Lead Arts Therapist by managing a caseload of clients.
• The post holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills and have undertaken appropriate post registration training.
• To be proficient in the assessment, identification, treatment and management of the emotional and psychological needs of the population requiring prolonged, in-depth concentration. This includes risk assessment, assessment of complex conditions.
• To frequently communicate and receive highly complex sensitive information with young people; who have experienced trauma/abuse /highly complex needs; their relatives/carers and other professionals.
• To have the specialist knowledge / skill to apply psychodynamic formulations and theory to work with individuals, groups and organizations.

• Experience of working in Mental Health.

• Ability to understand complex non-verbal communication
• Ability to support and engage in shared decision making with patients, including with patients who experience communication challenges
• Ability to provide detailed and complex psychological reports and information to inform and support care planning processes
• Ability to liaise effectively with a range of professionals, and external services or organisations, regarding sensitive and complex issues relating to clinical work, including issues relating to risk
• Knowledge and understanding of research methodology and outcome measurement
