Job summary

BGIS is seeking a skilled engineer to ensure environmental conditions of critical building systems are maintained. The role focuses on carrying out PPM and reactive tasks related to mechanical and electrical systems, whilst also managing subcontractors and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate relevant knowledge of M&E systems including fault-finding.
  • Experience with BMS system operation is advantageous.

Job description

Purpose of Job

To ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times with regard to critical building systems. To carry out PPM tasks and reactive and breakdown works to all M&E systems within the site. Engineers must demonstrate relevant knowledge of Air conditioning, UPS, Generators, LV systems, including fault-finding using graphical information and current alarm data.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure routine PPM is carried out on all mechanical & Electrical plant as per site schedules and asset lists.
  2. Complete reactive tasks throughout the building and proactively identify areas for improvement, including stores and fabric-related items.
  3. Manage sub-contractors to meet contract requirements, including approvals and safe operation during repairs or services.
  4. Operate a Permit to Work System following BGIS Quality, Health & Safety procedures and client requirements.
  5. Swiftly remedy plant faults and defects to maintain operational order.
  6. Maintain availability of suitable spares; provide parts lists and time estimates for remedial works.
  7. Complete and promptly pass all paperwork related to reactive and breakdown works to the contract administrator.
  8. Prepare and utilize Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safety.
  9. Develop good working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  10. Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including PPE and uniform compliance.
  11. Present a professional image of BGIS to clients.
  12. Keep plant rooms locked, clean, and tidy.
  13. Supervise and monitor subcontractor work on-site.
  14. Complete assigned tasks appropriately and safely.
  15. Ensure all tasks adhere to H&S standards and are completed on time.
  16. Maintain awareness and compliance with contractual KPIs/SLA’s.
  17. Keep the Computer Based Maintenance system (e.g., Maximo) updated, accurately closing PPM and reactive tickets.
  18. Operate Permit to Work System per BGIS and client procedures.
  19. Perform any other tasks assigned by site management.
  20. Ensure the engineering team produces near miss reports, risk assessments, and site activity records, escalating non-compliance as needed.
  21. Proactively check the operation of the LOTO system as per safety procedures.
  22. Monitor and maintain building environmental conditions using the BMS system to ensure internal comfort levels.
