We’re currently offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Multi-Trade Operative to join our team, supporting the maintenance of our buildings and gardens across Weymouth, Highcliffe, and Bournemouth. This role reports directly to the Regional Property Facilities Compliance Team.

As a Multi-Trade Operative, you’ll bring a broad range of skills to carry out maintenance, repairs, and installations across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, bricklaying, decorating, and general property upkeep.

Our care homes and their grounds are a vital part of the resident experience. They form the first impression for visitors and contribute to the comfort and well-being of our residents and their families. We take great pride in maintaining these environments to the highest possible standard—and you’ll play a key role in helping us achieve that.

Reports to: Regional Property Facilities Compliance Team

Key duties and responsibilities

  • You will ensure that buildings, grounds, gardens and all equipment are maintained to a high standard of repair and aesthetic condition
  • Liaise with contractors ensuing their safe conduct on site, high quality workmanship and a value for money service
  • Cover the duties of the members of the home’s maintenance team in their absence due to illness, annual leave or vacancies.
  • Physically assist members of the home maintenance staff in carrying out repairs and maintenance tasks when required, coaching them to develop their skills further where required.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory health and safety and fire regulations, maintain and reviewing planned preventative maintenance and reactive tasks within our systems (Fault Fixers.) Supporting our operational and quality assurance teams.

Skills and attributes

  • A strong foundation in multiple trades is essential, with a proven ability to complete tasks across different area including plumbing, carpentry, plastering, painting & decorating, small electrical tasks.
  • Hands-on experience of property maintenance Practical experience of planned preventative maintenance systems, record keeping, project and budget management
  • Sound knowledge of statutory Health & safety requirements and compliance. Especially in the following areas: Legionella Management, Fire Protection, Gas Safety, Electrical Safety, Air Conditioning and Internal Auditing.
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills are also important as you will need to manage, train and develop maintenance employees in your team.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, and ability to work well within a team
  • Excellent problem-solving skills are required as you will need to be able to diagnose issues and find effective solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills are required to work to deadlines, so effective time management is crucial.
  • The role affords a great deal of autonomy so self-motivation is essential.
  • The role involves manual labour and working in various environments, so physical fitness is necessary.
  • Ability to travel so a full driving licence is essential
