We are seeking three practitioners to join our new Multisystemic Therapy (MST) team, specifically focusing on Child Abuse & Neglect (MST-CAN). MST-CAN is a community-based program aimed at supporting children and young people to remain safely at home.

MST-CAN works with families for 6-9 months to prevent re-abuse and neglect, reduce mental health difficulties and increase natural social supports.

MST-CAN uses theories such as family systems theory, social ecological theory and child development and evidence-based approaches to the treatment of trauma and substance misuse in both children and adults.

The key responsibilities include providing intensive family intervention services to families at risk due to physical abuse and/or neglect, managing a specialized caseload, conducting MST assessments, and engaging caregivers in treatment. The role involves delivering clinical treatment aligned with MST principles, maintaining clear documentation for review, independently managing the caseload with empirically-based interventions, participating in MST-CAN training and consultations, and building relationships with community stakeholders to ensure cooperation among service providers.

Flexibility and participation in a 24/7 on-call service are required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to engage hard-to-reach families and defuse difficult situations, are essential.

The Person

Holds a degree or equivalent qualification at SCQF level 9 in Social Work, Applied Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, or a related field.

Has completed courses and qualifications and possesses experience in theoretical models and applied therapeutic techniques relevant to pragmatic therapies, CBT, trauma treatment, child development, substance abuse treatment and behavioural therapy.

Demonstrates considerable success in engaging hard-to-reach families, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and defuse difficult or volatile situations.

Possesses knowledge and experience in family systems, social ecological, and cognitive behavioural therapy theories and their application.

New workers must obtain registration with the relevant regulatory body within six months of their start date.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
