Position: Multi Skilled Driver

Location: UK Mobile

Reports to: Delivery Manager

Purpose of the Role

The successful and safe delivery of the programmed work / transit shift of Rail Grinders, Rail Milling, and Tampers. Being competent to drive both types of C21 & C44 Rail Grinders and Rail Milling Machines. Additionally, you would be trained to operate other types of OTM plant.

Key Role & Accountabilities

• Driving and route conducting the machines safely and effectively.
• Reporting any machine defects to Grinding Supervisor and/or Maintenance Supervisor, where appropriate.
• Working safely and effectively according to Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
• Assisting as required.
• Maintaining quality systems and stabling database by monitoring, reviewing, and recommending updates.
• Undertaking route learning and refreshing as needed, and expanding route knowledge base.
• Driving all other OTM such as Rail Milling Machines and Tampers.
• Keeping all routes current via the Colas Rail route app.

SHEQ Responsibilities

• Working in accordance with applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements.
• Complying with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
• Submitting Close Calls and safety conversations as per procedure.

Competencies Required

• Ability to drive all types of Rail Grinders and other OTM plant when required.
• Driving Licence, PTS, Fire Training, Emergency First Aid, Driver Mentor, Trainer / Assessor Qualification.

PPE Requirements

• Hard hat, Bump cap, Eye Protection, Safety Footwear, Torch, Ear Defenders, High Visibility Overalls, Trousers, T-Shirt, Coat, Respiratory Protection Equipment, Dusk mask.

Interfaces

Internal interfaces with Rail Grinding Management, Rail Planning Team, Grinding and Maintenance Supervisors regarding machine issues and schedule changes.
