Due to sustained growth and increased demand across our product lines, we are expanding our Engineering Team. We are currently seeking a permanent, full-time Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to be based at our Tayport works facility.
ROLE SUMMARY
As a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you will support the Engineering Team in maintaining and improving plant reliability through both reactive and proactive electrical and mechanical engineering services. Your role will involve fault-finding, installation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of equipment and systems. This hands-on position offers a diverse scope of work, allowing you to apply and develop your technical skills across both modern and legacy systems within a single site environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct routine inspections of electrical and mechanical equipment to ensure full functionality, compliance, and hazard mitigation.
- Diagnose equipment failures and implement appropriate repair or replacement solutions. Document all maintenance activities, including repairs, faults, and parts usage, using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Carry out repairs on electrical systems including wiring, circuit breakers, motors, control panels, and other key components.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for new machinery prior to commissioning.
- Interpret and utilise engineering schematics, technical diagrams, and manuals during troubleshooting and repairs.
- Advise on equipment lifespan and proactively recommend replacement plans to prevent downtime or safety risks.
- Complete all preventative maintenance activities according to planned schedules to maximise uptime and reduce unplanned costs.
- Respond effectively and safely to breakdowns, minimising disruption to production processes.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment in line with applicable standards and regulations.
- Participate in design reviews for bespoke in-house machinery developments.
- Maintain detailed shift logs and reports in the CMMS system.
- Collaborate closely with production teams to support product quality and adherence to ISO 9001 standards.
- Promote and maintain high standards of housekeeping across work areas, workshops, and stores.
- Comply with all company rules, policies, and operating procedures at all times.
- Undertake any other engineering-related duties as assigned.
- Continuously seek and implement best practices in engineering and maintenance operations.

- Ensure full compliance with all Health & Safety policies and safe working practices.
- Maintain awareness of and comply with all statutory safety and environmental regulations.
- Champion safe behaviours and actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Ensure appropriate handling, usage, and control of substances in accordance with COSHH regulations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a similar multi-skilled maintenance or engineering role.
- Recognised electrical qualifications.
- Proven mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in the use of CMMS software for maintenance management.
- Experience with PUWER assessments. Desirable:
- Working knowledge of PLC systems (programming not essential).
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Previous experience in extrusion and/or coating environments.
