Job description

Job Title: Highway Maintenance Operative

We are seeking enthusiastic and capable colleagues to join our Highway Operations team, which forms part of the Highway Network Management.

The successful candidate will undertake, as part of a team or individually, maintenance and construction of roads, footways, verges, street furniture, and highways drainage. Additionally, they will help ensure that the Service culture of performance, safety, and quality is embedded within the service. Specifically, the role involves:

  1. Providing a customer-focused service, where personal conduct and communication skills are key.
  2. Completing all works within the required timescales.
  3. Carrying out works effectively to minimize disruption to all road users within the District.
  4. Ensuring all work is carried out safely and to specification.

This is a career grade position offering an excellent opportunity for individuals with the potential to develop into skilled and valuable employees. Career grades allow progression through several incremental pay grades while undertaking further training, demonstrating increased competence, and taking on more responsibilities along a defined career path.

The starting salary will be determined based on the skills and qualifications already possessed by the successful candidate, in line with the job specifications.

Opportunities to earn extra money are available through participation in a Winter Maintenance Standby Rota/Gritter Driving, which requires an LGV license. Training will be provided for this role if needed.
