Help Drive Recycling and Re-Use Across West London
West London Waste Authority (WLWA) is recruiting 4 proactive and reliable Multi-Skilled Operatives to join our on-site team at Brent’s Waste Transfer Station. You’ll play a vital hands-on role in ensuring waste is sorted, recycled, reused, and diverted from landfill—making a tangible difference for local communities and the environment.

This is a site-based role requiring a flexible approach to shift patterns, including weekend work on a rota basis (with weekend allowance).

About the Role

You will work across multiple functions, including our Waste Transfer Station (WTS), Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC), Reuse shop, and the weighbridge operation. From greeting customers to operating plant machinery, you’ll support the smooth and safe operation of the site, while helping to maximise recycling, reuse and revenue generation.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Support safe and efficient day-to-day operations at the site

  • Help residents and commercial users recycle correctly and safely

  • Operate the weighbridge, calculate charges, and manage payment handling

  • Drive and operate plant vehicles (e.g. shunters, loading shovel) once trained

  • Sort and separate waste and recycling to reduce contamination and landfill

  • Carry out routine cleaning and site maintenance duties

  • Act as a traffic controller to manage flow and safety on-site

  • Maintain records of materials and assist in reporting and compliance

What We’re Looking For

This role suits a team player who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, interacting with the public, and supporting sustainability efforts in the community. You should be safety-conscious, adaptable, and willing to learn new skills, including plant operation and customer service techniques.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, fast-paced operational setting

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Good communication and customer service skills

  • Basic IT literacy and ability to use digital weighbridge systems

  • Strong awareness of health and safety procedures

Desirable (Training Provided If Not Yet Qualified)
  • Experience with site machinery (e.g. 360 material handler, RoRo vehicles)

  • Weighbridge operation and waste load assessment

  • Traffic management and Banksman certification

  • Knowledge of waste streams and recycling practices

Why Join Us?
  • Be part of a mission to reduce waste and increase sustainability

  • Gain valuable training and certification across site operations

  • Work in a supportive team culture with clear values and purpose

  • Competitive salary plus weekend allowance and generous pension
