Job summary

Cheltenham Borough Council offers a Property Maintenance Apprenticeship (Level 2) where you’ll learn carpentry, bricklaying and roofing under guidance of skilled tradespeople in domestic properties. You will spend one day weekly at Gloucestershire College and complete practical assignments with a mentor.

Working Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm, the 1 year 9 month programme leads to an apprenticeship qualification and potential future opportunities within local government maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths are essential.
• Strong communication and detail‑oriented skills.
• Ability to identify faults and propose repair approaches.

Responsibilities

• Work with a mentor to carry out repairs and maintenance in domestic properties.
• Learn carpentry, bricklaying and roofing repairs.
• Identify faults and learn repair approaches.
• Support larger projects, e.g., kitchen fitting and door installations.
• Work safely and to a high standard, delivering good customer service.

What You'll Do

• Work alongside an experienced mentor to carry out repairs and maintenance in domestic properties
• Learn and develop practical skills across carpentry, bricklaying and roofing repairs
• Help identify faults and learn how to choose the right approach to repairs
• Support larger projects, including kitchen fitting and the installation of fire‑rated doors
• Learn to complete work safely, efficiently and to a high‑quality standard, providing a good service to our customers
• Attend Gloucestershire College one day per week during term time and complete the learning required for your apprenticeship
