Job summary

Holcim is seeking a hands-on site operative for our Sunderland Asphalt site. You will work Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 16:00, with potential overtime. The role involves operating mobile plant, managing stockpiles and supporting safe, efficient plant operations.

You will be embedded in a collaborative team, receive full training, and contribute to maintaining quality materials while upholding health, safety, and environmental standards on site.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work outdoors on site and follow on-site procedures.
• Good numeracy and literacy for weighbridge and documentation.
• Demonstrate a safety-conscious approach and support safe work practices.
• Able to follow standard operating procedures and instructions.
• Eagerness to learn with on-site training provided.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile plant safely (loading shovels, 360 excavators over 10T) to manage stockpiles and feed the plant.
• Control the asphalt fixed plant to produce quality materials.
• Welcoming visitors/hauliers at weighbridge and assisting with inductions and records.
• Monitor stock levels and replenish bays and hoppers as needed.
• Carry out routine inspections, lubrication and minor maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards across yard and production areas.
• Uphold health, safety and environmental standards on site.

The Opportunity

Based at our Sunderland Asphalt site, you will join a supportive, close-knit team that takes genuine pride in delivery, quality, and respect. This on-site, permanent position provides a dynamic workplace with a consistent core schedule of Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 16:00, offering you stability alongside practical, varied work. There will be opportunity for overtime as and when required by the business.

In this role, you will develop a diverse set of practical skills across multiple site functions. Your key responsibilities include:

• Operating mobile plant safely, including loading shovels and 360 excavators over 10T, to manage stockpiles, feed the plant, load vehicles, and keep site haul roads well maintained.

• Controlling the asphalt fixed plant to produce quality materials that satisfy customer expectations and industry standards.

• Welcoming visitors and hauliers at the weighbridge, carrying out site inductions, and assisting with dispatch and inventory records.

• Monitoring aggregate stock levels and ensuring bays and hoppers are correctly replenished.

• Carrying out routine inspections, safety checks, plant lubrication, and minor maintenance to keep equipment running efficiently.

• Collaborating with teammates to maintain high housekeeping standards across the yard and production areas.

• Upholding exemplary health, safety, and environmental standards across all site activities.
