Tarmac Thrislington Quarry in County Durham is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to support safe, efficient production of dry aggregates. This hands-on role suits someone with an industrial/plants background who enjoys responsibility and developing technical skills.

Based at Thrislington Quarry, Ferryhill, the position involves operating mobile plant, assisting with weighbridge duties, and working with a close operational team in a safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in industrial, quarry, factory or aggregates environments is preferred.
• Mobile plant experience (shovel/ADT/excavator) is desirable but not essential.
• A proactive, flexible approach and strong teamwork skills.
• Good communication and timekeeping.
• Willingness to learn new skills and develop supervisory capability.
• Understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work is beneficial.
• IT literacy and a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile plant and site machinery (dumpers, loading shovels, static plant).
• Support daily production targets and on-time customer deliveries.
• Carry out routine plant maintenance and housekeeping.
• Assist with weighbridge duties.
• Work closely with supervisors and team members to maximise plant availability.
• Champion high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.
• Promote a strong behavioural safety and zero-harm culture on site.

Thrislington Quarry, Ferryhill, County Durham. Looking for a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same? Want to build practical skills, work with heavy plant, and be part of a close‑knit operational team producing essential construction materials?

Location: Thrislington Quarry, Ferryhill, County Durham

We’re recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to support the safe, efficient production of dry aggregates at Tarmac Thrislington Quarry, Ferryhill, County Durham. This is a great opportunity for someone with an industrial, quarrying or plant background who enjoys responsibility, teamwork and developing their technical skills.

Easily accessible from Ferryhill, Spennymoor, Newton Aycliffe, Peterlee, Sedgefield, Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Consett, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas.

What You’ll Be Doing

What We’re Looking For

Plant tickets and shovel licence are advantageous, but full training can be provided for the right candidate.
