Job summary

Tendley Quarry, Cockermouth, Cumbria, is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative to help run the dry aggregates production. You’ll operate a Face Excavator and other site machinery, contributing to daily targets and safety standards in a team‑focused, safety‑driven environment.

We value individuals with quarry or industrial backgrounds, who are keen to learn and develop operational and supervisory skills, and who hold a valid UK driving licence. Training and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in quarry, industrial, factory or aggregates environments.
• Excavator experience, particularly face work, is highly desirable.
• Mobile plant experience (shovel/ADT/dumpers) is beneficial.
• Proactive, flexible approach with strong teamwork skills.
• Good communication and reliable timekeeping.
• Willingness to learn and develop supervisory capability; risk assessments familiarity helpful.

Responsibilities

• Operates a Face Excavator to support quarry operations.
• Operates additional mobile plant and site machinery (ADT dumpers, loading shovels, static plant).
• Supports daily production targets and on-time deliveries.
• Performs routine plant maintenance and site housekeeping.
• Collaborates with supervisors and team to maximise plant availability.
• Promotes high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.
• Supports a strong safety culture on site.

Multi Skilled Operative – Tendley Quarry, Cockermouth, Cumbria.

We’re recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to support the safe and efficient production of dry aggregates at our Tendley Quarry. This role will involve daily operation of a Face Excavator, along with a range of other quarry-based duties. It’s an opportunity for someone with an industrial, quarrying or plant background who enjoys responsibility, teamwork and technical development.

Easily accessible from Workington, Keswick, Whitehaven, Troutbeck, Grasmere, Penrith, Carlisle and surrounding areas.

What you’ll be doing

• Operating a Face Excavator to support quarry operations
• Operating additional mobile plant and site machinery (ADT dumpers, loading shovels, static plant)
• Supporting daily production targets and on‑time customer deliveries
• Carrying out routine plant maintenance and site housekeeping
• Working closely with supervisors and team members to maximise plant availability
• Championing high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance
• Promoting a strong behavioural safety and zero‑harm culture on site

You’ll be part of a supportive operational team, gaining exposure to a wide range of plant, processes and responsibilities within a safety‑focused, performance‑driven environment.

What we’re looking for

• Experience in an industrial, quarry, factory or aggregates environment (preferred)
• Excavator experience, particularly face work, is highly desirable
• Mobile plant experience (shovel / ADT / dumpers beneficial)
• A proactive, flexible approach with strong teamwork skills
• Good communication skills and reliable timekeeping
• Willingness to learn new skills and develop operational and supervisory capability
• Understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work (beneficial)
• IT literacy and a full UK driving licence
• Plant tickets, including an excavator and shovel licence are advantageous, but full training can be provided for the right candidate
