Job summary

Mears Group is seeking a talented Multi-Skilled Operative to join our responsive repairs team. You will perform day-to-day repairs across multiple trades in occupied social housing properties, ensuring homes are safe and functional.

The role is permanent, full-time, with a 42.5-hour week and a company van with a fuel card. Based in Grimsby area sites including Pontefract, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and surrounding areas, the role requires a full UK driving licence, strong customer service and the

• Proven experience in repairs across carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across void social housing properties.
• Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves and internal door frames.
• Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops and cupboard doors.
• Repair internal doors, handles, locks and hinges.
• Identify and fix minor plumbing issues.
• Carry out patch plastering and make good damaged walls/ceilings.
• Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing.
• Paint and decorate to a professional finish after repairs.
• Ensure all repairs are completed safely and to a high standard.
• Work in occupied properties with residents' needs and privacy.
• Participate in out-of-hours emergency repair rota.
• Attend training sessions as required.
• Report any further works or safeguarding concerns beyond scope.
• Deliver excellent customer service in residents' homes.
• Accurately record job details using handheld devices or job sheets.
• Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle.
• Manage daily workload to meet service level targets.

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: £33,727 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card

Hours: Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week, 8:00am-5:00pm

We’re on the lookout for a talented and versatile Multi-Skilled Operative to join our team, supporting a busy responsive repairs contract. This is a dynamic, hands‑on role where you’ll be responsible for delivering high‑quality repairs and maintenance across a range of trades, ensuring residents’ homes are safe, functional, and well cared for.

You’ll be working across occupied properties, responding to day‑to‑day repair requests that cover carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and more. No two days are the same, and your ability to adapt, problem‑solve, and deliver excellent customer service will be key to your success.

With a strong pipeline of work and a commitment to improving social housing standards, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that’s making a real difference in the community. We’re looking for someone reliable, skilled across multiple trades, and passionate about getting the job done right the first time.

Duties:

• Carry out day‑to‑day responsive repairs across void social housing properties

• Replacing or repairing skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames

• Repairing or replacing internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges

• Identifying and fixing minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps, and blocked sinks

• Carrying out patch plastering and making good, damaged walls or ceilings

• Completing wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing

• Painting and decorating to a professional finish following repair works

• Ensuring all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard

• Working in occupied properties with sensitivity to residents’ needs and privacy

• Participating in out‑of‑hours emergency repair rota on a rotational basis

• Attend training sessions when required

• Reporting any further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope

• Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents' homes

• Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets

• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order

• Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets

Role Criteria:

• Proven experience in repairs and maintenance across multiple trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating)

• Full UK driving licence

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Excellent communication skills

• Good time management skills
