Job summary

Babcock International Group in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute is hiring a Multi Skilled Operative to support Fleet Engineering at HMNB Clyde. You will help ensure planned maintenance, engineering activities and operational tasks are completed to high safety and quality standards.

The role is 37 hours per week on-site, with set hours Monday to Thursday, 7:15am to 4:45pm. A Security Check clearance is required and successful candidates will contribute to national security and defence engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience in an engineering, maintenance, industrial, marine or defence environment.
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• Experience following procedures, work instructions and established processes.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team while supporting multiple priorities.
• Practical experience handling equipment and completing physically active tasks safely.

Responsibilities

• Supporting engineering teams to deliver planned preventative maintenance activities.
• Assisting with identification and rectification of equipment defects and engineering issues.
• Handling, controlling, issuing and returning work equipment as required.
• Working safely within health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.

The role

As a Multi Skilled Operative, you'll provide vital support to Fleet Engineering teams, helping ensure planned maintenance, engineering activities, and operational support tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This is an excellent opportunity to build your experience within defence engineering, working alongside skilled professionals supporting submarines, surface craft, and estate infrastructure.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

• Supporting engineering teams to deliver planned preventative maintenance activities.
• Assisting with the identification and rectification of equipment defects, alterations, and engineering issues.
• Handling, controlling, issuing, and returning work equipment in line with operational requirements.
• Working safely within health and safety legislation, safe systems of work, and control of work procedures.
• Contributing ideas that improve processes, efficiency, productivity, and operational performance.

This role is 37 hours per week, based on site at HMNB Clyde. Set working times are Monday to Thursday, 7:15am to 4:45pm.

Essential experience of the Multi Skilled Operative

• Experience working within an engineering, maintenance, industrial, manufacturing, marine, defence, or operational environment.
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• Experience following procedures, work instructions, and established processes.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team while supporting multiple operational priorities.
• Practical experience handling equipment and completing physically active tasks safely.

Qualifications for the Multi Skilled Operative

• Demonstrable practical skills and experience relevant to engineering support or operational activities.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
