Company Overview

A well-established organisation operating a specialist recycling and renewable energy facility is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Shift Engineer to join its growing team. The site processes organic waste materials to generate renewable energy, heat, and nutrient-rich fertiliser, offering an environmentally sustainable alternative to landfill disposal.

This role is ideal for a skilled maintenance engineer looking for an opportunity to work with advanced industrial machinery, contribute to an organisation focused on sustainability, and develop their expertise within a fast-paced environment.

Role Overview

The Multi-Skilled Maintenance Shift Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of plant equipment, ensuring site operations run efficiently and safely. The successful candidate will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults, and support operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine inspections to ensure all plant equipment operates effectively.
  • Perform diagnostic work and fault finding on a range of industrial machinery, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, and valves.
  • Conduct reactive maintenance and respond to breakdowns to minimise operational downtime.
  • Manage contractors and third-party service providers when required, ensuring all work meets site standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the modernisation of processes.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and attend necessary training.
  • Ensure compliance with LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) procedures for safe mechanical and electrical isolations.
  • Assist with additional duties as required by the management team.

Person Specification

  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 (CGLI) or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience working with centrifugal, lobe, diaphragm, and screw pumps.
  • Ability to replace shafts, seals, bearings, pipework, fittings, and couplings.
  • Experience of valve replacements and basic pneumatics.
  • Knowledge of LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) systems for mechanical and electrical isolations.
  • Experience working in an industrial, food processing, or waste management environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills and ability to liaise professionally with colleagues and contractors.
  • Comfortable working at height and within plant-based environments.
  • Basic IT skills for maintenance reporting and record-keeping.
  • Flexible approach to shift work, including nights and weekends.
  • Dual-skilled in both mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Experience working with SCADA, PLCs, and automation systems.
  • Prior involvement in continuous improvement and efficiency projects.
  • Competitive salary with additional benefits package.
  • Training and development opportunities to enhance skillset.
  • Secure, long-term career prospects within a growing and innovative organisation.
